Where the demand is going

Demand is diverging sharply by sector. Traditional automotive and electronics manufacturing automation continues to grow steadily, concentrated in Germany, Japan, South Korea and China's expanding domestic robot industry, while warehouse and logistics automation has hired aggressively since Amazon's Kiva acquisition proved the economics at scale.

The biggest recent shift is speculative capital: humanoid-robot startups in the United States and China raised enormous venture funding in the early-to-mid 2020s betting on general-purpose robots for manufacturing, logistics and eventually homes, pulling talent — and salaries — for perception, learning and controls specialists well above traditional industrial-automation pay scales, even though most of those products remain unproven at commercial scale.
