T Battle of Tsushima

Legacy

Afterlives and unresolved questions of Battle of Tsushima.

Educational history. Casualty figures are documented ranges. This is not operational advice, a ranking of nations, or a how-to for weapons or coups.

Japan as a great power in European eyes. The Anglo-Japanese alliance already existed; Tsushima made it look prophetic.

Korean sovereignty's legal death warrant was drafted in the same season.

Lessons

Baltic Fleet destroyed

A European battle line erased in Asian waters.

Japan as a naval great power

A 1905 fact in European chancelleries.

Korea's door forced

Protectorate as sequel.

Keep the cost as a range

Russian dead and drowned in the thousands; Japanese dead in the hundreds -- a lopsided fleet action Battle of Tsushima is not improved by a fake precise integer.

Teach the Korean civic file, not only the English caption

Battle of Tsushima is a Korean-atlas priority: Tsushima Strait, between Korea and Japan has a thicker classroom than US/UK/AU/CA surveys usually admit.

Unresolved

Census still a band

"Russian dead and drowned in the thousands; Japanese dead in the hundreds -- a lopsided fleet action" remains a band. New archives refine Battle of Tsushima; they do not un-happen 27-28 May 1905.

Archives uneven

Files on Battle of Tsushima remain unevenly open across Tsushima Strait, between Korea and Japan. An Jung-geun's paper trail is not the same as Togo Heihachiro's.

Protectorate 1905

The Korean political sequel of the same year.

Teaching hours

English classroom hours on Battle of Tsushima still disagree with hours in Tsushima Strait, between Korea and Japan. Is this a gunnery manual? is often the gap.

Shifts

Siege war

1904: Port Arthur, Liaoyang, Mukden on land.

The strait

27-28 May 1905: Togo's day and night.

Memory

After: Mikasa, Korean 1910 story, English diagrams.

Afterlife of the name

Battle of Tsushima left institutions and stories that outlasted 27-28 May 1905. Togo Heihachiro became a caption; Tsushima Strait, between Korea and Japan kept the rubble or the letterhead.

Outlook

Scholarship

New archives will refine Battle of Tsushima (Day action, Eulsa treaty) without un-happening 27-28 May 1905.

Memory handover

As witnesses die, museums and film carry Battle of Tsushima. Nicholas II and Theodore Roosevelt will keep being recast.

This atlas

Battle of Tsushima stays a historical file -- a dated campaign, not a live order of battle or a method.

Risk

16 / 100
closed battle

Tsushima ended in May 1905. Residual risk is naval romanticism and telling Togo's turn without Eulsa.

Dreadnought (1906) soon recast the battleship -- Tsushima was a climax of a type already about to change.

Midway 1942 would recast the same waters' hierarchy again.
