12 December 1979 coup is political-military history. This page does not teach how to move units through a capital or how to seize a ministry.
Memory bias
English-language fame of 12 December 1979 coup and local memory in Seoul: Army HQ, Hanahoe networks, after Park Chung-hee's assassination are not the same map. John A. Wickham Jr. is often the correction the first photograph drops.
This is not a study of how to isolate a defence ministry.
Gwangju's suppression is recorded as a crime in civic memory and in later verdicts -- not as a public-order lesson.
