Major honours
With a population of 1.9 million, this programme fields its own team at the World Cup of Darts and has seen three generations of players make their mark in different ways. The starting point is 2011, when Brendan Dolan, from Enniskillen, threw the first-ever double-start nine-darter at the World Grand Prix, where every leg must start on a double — widely regarded as the hardest perfect leg in the sport. Next came Derry's Daryl Gurney, who won the 2017 Players Championship Finals and the 2018 World Grand Prix to become Northern Ireland's first PDC major champion. Third was Josh Rock, who won the 2022 PDC World Youth Championship and then threw a nine-darter on his World Championship debut, immediately putting him at the top of the sport's list of prospects. The Premier League night at Belfast's SSE Arena is one of the fastest-selling on the circuit.

Rivalry
Fielding a team separate from the Republic of Ireland at the World Cup of Darts says something about this country's darts on its own. That two teams from the same island each chase their own win in the same event has lasted longer here than in almost any other sport, and the five-team bloc that also includes England, Scotland and Wales always makes this event's early draw interesting.
