Major honours
This programme turned darts into mainstream broadcast content in a country that barely threw darts before. The starting point is 1998, when Raymond van Barneveld, a former Hague postman, won his first BDO world title and drew millions of viewers on Dutch television. The pipeline he opened produced Jelle Klaasen, BDO champion at 21 in 2006, Christian Kist, an unheralded winner in 2012, Danny Noppert, who took the UK Open in 2022, and above all Michael van Gerwen. Van Gerwen holds three PDC world titles alongside the all-time record televised three-dart average of 123.40 and the best World Championship final average of 114.05. The national team has won the World Cup of Darts five times, in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018, tying England for the most titles. The Dutch night of the Premier League, held at Rotterdam Ahoy, draws some of the biggest crowds on the circuit.

Rivalry
England is everything here. Van Barneveld's career was defined by one man, Phil Taylor, and their 2007 final is still ranked among the sport's greatest matches. In the World Cup of Darts the two countries are also tied exactly on titles, and any final meeting between them draws the tournament's biggest crowd.
