Major honours
This is a case of one player lifting an entire national programme. The starting point is 2017, when Mensur Suljovic, who grew up in Vienna, won the Champions League of Darts to give Austria its first televised trophy. His trademark slow rhythm, long set-up and lingering follow-through after release became one of the most recognisable actions on the circuit, and he kept Austria in the world's top 16 for several seasons, making it a seeded nation at the World Cup of Darts. Rowby-John Rodriguez and Zoran Lerchbacher followed by holding PDC tour cards. In 2020, Austria hosted a crowd-free World Cup of Darts in Salzburg because of the pandemic, and the Austrian leg of the European Tour draws fans from across the German and Czech borders. There is still no world title, but Austria is one of the early continental European cases proving that darts can take root without a British-style pub culture.
