How long should steak rest?

Rest time depends on thickness — minutes for a chop, longer for a roast.

Short answer

Thin steaks often need 2–5 minutes on a warm plate; thick steaks and roasts need longer so juices settle and carryover finishes the centre. Do not wrap tight or the crust steams soft.
