Off the pool deck, the sport's future hinges on solving two problems: building a credible professional product to sustain athletes between Olympics, and restoring trust in its anti-doping system after the 2024 controversies. Whether swimming can grow commercially without compromising the integrity that makes its records meaningful is the defining question of its next decade.
