What none of that touches is the transaction the client is actually paying for — a person who takes responsibility for their life in terrain where conditions change faster than any model updates.
The honest automation story in guiding is not replacement but erosion of the information monopoly. A century ago the guide knew the way and the weather and nobody else did; today the knowledge is public and the judgment is the product. That shift rewards exactly the skills that are hardest to certify — reading this slope, this client, this hour — and prices the rest into an app.
Perhaps a tenth of the job — forecast synthesis, route information, booking and paperwork, some instruction content — is realistically automatable now or soon. The core cannot be: no system moves a frightened human over a bergschrund, holds a slip on a short rope, improvises a crevasse rescue, or carries legal duty of care. The physical, liability-bearing heart of guiding is among the least automatable work on this site.

No current or foreseeable system takes over the essential transaction: a human being who walks into hazardous terrain with your life attached to theirs and accepts responsibility for the outcome. The trade survived the end of its information monopoly once already, when guidebooks were invented. It will survive the apps.
