Major honours
The club that set the modern standard for women's club handball. Founded in 1948, the women's division spent decades as a provincial Hungarian club before Audi's local-factory sponsorship and a dedicated 5,500-seat arena lifted it to the top of Europe. It has won the Champions League seven times, in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2024 and 2025, the most of any active club, including a three-peat from 2017 to 2019. It has taken the Hungarian league 19 times and the Hungarian Cup 16 times, with seven straight league titles from 2008 to 2014. The club's identity was built around back Anita Gorbicz, who spent effectively her entire career at Gyor and had her number 13 retired. Brazil's Eduarda Amorim and Norway's Katrine Lunde and Heidi Loke followed, turning Gyor into a gathering point for Europe's top players.

Rivalry
Domestically, the Hungarian derby against Ferencvaros is the biggest fixture; in Europe, the recurring matchup is with CSM Bucuresti. After Gyor lost the 2016 Budapest final to CSM on a shootout, the two clubs' meetings became women's handball's biggest box-office fixture.
