Major honours
The most decorated club this sport has ever produced, and the benchmark for European club handball. Founded on November 29, 1942, Barca's handball team operates under the same organization and the same membership structure as the football club, and plays home matches at the 7,500-seat Palau Blaugrana. It has won the European Cup and Champions League combined 13 times, peaking with five straight titles from 1996 to 2000 under coach Valero Rivera, followed more recently by back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022 and further titles in 2024 and 2025-26. Domestically it has effectively no rival: 33 Spanish league titles, sixteen of them in a row from 2010-11 through 2025-26, plus 30 Copa del Rey titles. That dominance hardened further after the 2008 financial crisis dissolved rivals like Ciudad Real and Portland San Antonio, leaving Liga ASOBAL a top-tier development league with essentially no title race left in it.

Rivalry
In the 2000s, the matchup with Ciudad Real was effectively a European final, and the two teams' Spanish league meetings were regarded as world-class fixtures in their own right. Once Ciudad Real folded, Barcelona's real rivals shifted from the domestic scene to Kiel, Kielce and Magdeburg, met annually at the Cologne FINAL4.
