Major honours
The Badminton Association of Thailand was founded in 1950, but the country's real talent pipeline is a private academy in Bangkok, the BanthongYon Badminton School. It produced Ratchanok Intanon, who became the youngest-ever women's singles world champion at 18 in Guangzhou in 2013, and Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who won the men's singles world title in Copenhagen in 2023. A mixed doubles gold for Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai in Huelva in 2021 brought Thailand's World Championship gold tally to three. Its only Olympic medal is a men's singles silver won by Kunlavut, who lost to Viktor Axelsen in the Paris 2024 final. In team competition, Thailand reached the 2018 Uber Cup final in Bangkok but lost 0-3 to Japan. It is a rare case of a country reaching the world's top tier through a private academy and individual sponsorship rather than a national residential system.

Rivalry
The 0-3 collapse to Japan in the 2018 Uber Cup final and repeated women's clashes since have shaped the axis with Japan, while Kunlavut's back-to-back finals against Viktor Axelsen at the 2023 Worlds and 2024 Olympics have formed a fresh rivalry in men's singles.
