Major honours
The Badminton Korea Association was founded in 1957, and the national team trains at the Jincheon National Training Center, which opened in 2017. Korea was strong from the very first Games badminton became an Olympic sport. At Barcelona 1992, Park Joo-bong and Kim Moon-soo won men's doubles gold and Hwang Hye-young and Chung So-young took women's doubles, and at Atlanta 1996, Bang Soo-hyun won women's singles and Kim Dong-moon and Gil Young-ah took mixed doubles. Men's doubles gold at Athens 2004 and mixed doubles gold at Beijing 2008 pushed the tally to 7 Olympic golds through 2024, and at Paris 2024 An Se-young reclaimed the women's singles title after a 28-year gap. Korea's 14 World Championship golds rank third all-time, and it has won the Sudirman Cup four times — 1991, 1993, 2003 and 2017 — second only to China. Its Uber Cup tally reached three with a 2026 win over China in Herning, following 2010 and 2022. The Thomas Cup, however, has never once come Korea's way.

Rivalry
Korea's four Sudirman Cup wins map its rivalries directly: 3-2 victories over Indonesia in Copenhagen 1991 and Birmingham 1993, and wins over China in Eindhoven 2003 and Gold Coast 2017. Bang Soo-hyun's 1992 Barcelona women's singles final loss to Susi Susanti adds an old wound to the relationship with Indonesia.
