Major honours
Founded in January 1930, Badminton Denmark is the only program outside Asia to have produced elite players without interruption. A population of six million sustains more than 30,000 registered club players and a dense regional league system, topped by the national training center in Broendby, west of Copenhagen. Erland Kops won the All England singles title seven times through the 1950s and 60s, Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen became the first European to win Olympic badminton gold at Atlanta 1996, and Viktor Axelsen took back-to-back golds at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 to bring Denmark's Olympic tally to three. Above all, the Thomas Cup won in Kunshan in 2016 over Indonesia remains the only time a nation from outside Asia has ever won that title. Denmark has also hosted the event twice, in Aarhus in 2021 and Herning in 2026.

Rivalry
Europe versus Asia is Denmark's rivalry in one phrase, and the 3-2 win over Indonesia in the 2016 Thomas Cup final was its peak. In men's singles, generational duels running from Peter Gade against Lin Dan through to Axelsen against Kento Momota have formed the axis against China and Japan.
