Writing talent

Develop

Growing writing talent as a system of catalysts, windows and supports — educational, not diagnostic.

Development here follows Gagné-like honesty: aptitudes, practice and catalysts. Writing talent is not a finished essence.

Windows differ by domain. A closed sport window is not a closed writing window. Read the clocks.

Stages

  1. Read like a thief

Copy structures, not sentences, into notes.

    Apprenticeship.

  2. Finish small

    A scene, a 800-word argument.

    Closure is a skill.

  3. Revise on a printout

    Cut 10%.

    Process research in practice.

  4. Take one reader

Ask three questions, not “did you like it?”.

    Workshop hygiene.

  5. Imitate a form

    Lede, sonnet, radio monologue.

    Constraint.

  6. Put work in the world

    A zine, a reading, a paper.

    Audience simulation becomes real.

Supports

Writing talent: catalysts and windows do the daily work. Destiny talk is the failure mode.
