Practice

Designed methods for design talent — steps, drills and pitfalls, not a promise.

Practice means designed work with feedback — Ericsson’s construct, not Gladwell’s hour ticket.

Where Macnamara et al. 2014 published domain bands (games ~26%, music ~21%, sports ~18%, education ~4%), this page uses those rounded figures and does not invent new precision.

Steps

  1. Take a brief

    Write constraints in six lines.

    No mystique.

  2. Steal structure from one object

    Not style, structure.

    Apprenticeship.

  3. Make two ugly versions

    Before a pretty one.

    Iteration.

  4. Watch one user

    Ten minutes, notes.

    Falsify.

  5. Change one variable

    Type, scale, or path.

    Control.

  6. State the principle

    Why this, not that.

    Rams homework.

Design talent: design the hour; retire the poster. Education is not a diagnosis.
