Deliberate practice

Practice

Designed methods for deliberate practice — steps, drills and pitfalls, not a promise.

Practice means designed work with feedback — Ericsson’s construct, not Gladwell’s hour ticket.

Where Macnamara et al. 2014 published domain bands (games ~26%, music ~21%, sports ~18%, education ~4%), this page uses those rounded figures and does not invent new precision.

Steps

  1. Drop the slogan

    Strike 10,000 from the plan.

    Gladwell is not a syllabus.

  2. Pick one failure

    A measurable miss.

    Weakness first.

  3. Write the drill

    Ten minutes that target it.

    Design on paper.

  4. Record one attempt

    Audio, video, or written solution.

    Feedback object.

  5. Adjust once

    Change one parameter.

    Not a full restart.

  6. Stop while attending

    End the block before collapse.

    Quality minutes only.

Deliberate practice: design the hour; retire the poster. Education is not a diagnosis.
