Kalex is a small chassis manufacturer founded in 2008 by Alex Baumgartel and Klaus Hirsekorn, whose combined names give the company its own. When Moto2 launched as a spec-engine class, engine development was closed off and competition shifted entirely to the chassis, and Kalex used that opening to become the de facto standard supplier for most of the grid. Stefan Bradl delivered the first Moto2 title in 2011, and Kalex produced the champion every season from 2013 to 2023, adding another with Manuel Gonzalez in 2025. Johann Zarco, Francesco Bagnaia, Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta all became world champions on this frame, and nearly the entire current MotoGP grid rode a Kalex at some point in their careers. The peculiarity of this company, with a headcount in the dozens, is that it has never fielded a single premier-class entry yet has become the gateway that essentially the entire talent pipeline of the sport passes through.

Kalex's only genuine challenger has been Italy's Boscoscuro, which broke more than a decade of Kalex's monopoly when Ai Ogura won the 2024 Moto2 title on that chassis. In the early years Suter and Moriwaki competed as well, but both fell away within a few seasons.
