Ducati entered MotoGP with the Desmosedici in 2003 and produced a win for Loris Capirossi in its very first season, then took both riders' and constructors' titles when Casey Stoner won ten races in the first year of the 800cc formula in 2007. A long dry spell followed. Even Valentino Rossi failed to win a single race on the bike in 2011 and 2012. The turning point was aerodynamics: the winglets of the mid-2010s and the holeshot and ride-height devices that followed all emerged first from Borgo Panigale before spreading across the grid. Ducati won six straight constructors' championships from 2020 to 2025 and four straight riders' titles, with Francesco Bagnaia in 2022 and 2023, Jorge Martin in 2024 and Marc Marquez in 2025. Its large fleet, supplying roughly a third of the grid across factory and independent teams, has built a structural advantage in data, and that scale is exactly why Ducati remains locked in the top concessions tier.

Ducati versus Honda peaked from 2017 to 2019, when Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez fought to the final corner nearly every year, a rivalry that dissolved the moment Marquez himself joined Ducati in 2024. The sharpest rivalry now runs inside the Ducati camp itself, over the equipment gap between the factory riders and the satellite teams.
