Major honours
Honda is the most successful constructor in Grand Prix history. The company first appeared at the 1959 Isle of Man TT with a 125cc machine, took its first world title in 1961, and added the premier-class constructors' championship in 1966 before withdrawing at the end of the 1967 season. A four-stroke comeback with the NR500 failed in 1979, so Honda switched to the two-stroke NS500 in 1982, and Freddie Spencer delivered a title the very next year. Honda has since stacked up 20 premier-class riders' titles, built around Mick Doohan's five straight from 1994 to 1998 and Marc Marquez's six between 2013 and 2019. HRC's racing division operates separately from the road-bike business, and the RC213V has long been engineered as a classic point-and-shoot machine that gains time under braking and pushes hard off the corner. After Marquez's 2020 humerus injury, Honda fell to the bottom of the constructors' standings and rebuilt from the lowest concessions tier, with Joan Mir and Luca Marini pointing toward a top-tier return in 2025.

Rivalry
Honda and Yamaha have been the premier class's basic axis since the 1970s, running through Spencer versus Roberts, Doohan versus Rainey, and Rossi's 2003 departure from Honda for Yamaha. Since the 2020s Honda's real rival has been Ducati, and the rivalry sharpened when Marquez himself crossed to that camp in 2024.
