VViruses and the human body

Viruses ? Packets of DNA or RNA that are not cells — they replicate only inside living hosts.

Human interfaces are uneven. Childhood infections, seasonal respiratory viruses and blood-borne lineages have different routes and different public-health tools.

Vaccines

Killed, subunit or mRNA products teach recognition without requiring wild infection. Smallpox eradication (1980 declaration) is the extreme success story.

Acute respiratory infection

Colds, influenza and COVID-class viruses spread on shared air. Risk is about dose, immunity and vulnerability, not moral failure.

Chronic and latent carriage

Herpesviruses and some hepatitis viruses persist. The host pays in immune surveillance; the virus pays in needing that host alive.

Some viruses preferentially damage certain tumour cells in trials. Public pages stay at the idea, not construction steps.

Immune memory

Surviving or being vaccinated leaves antibodies and T cells. That memory is why second measles is rare in immune people.

Spillover epidemics

New human outbreaks often start in animal reservoirs. Surveillance is ecology and hospitals, not a home experiment.

Vaccines, ventilation and not demanding antibiotics for a cold are complementary tools — none of them 'delete all viruses from the planet'.
