Origins

Polynesia, Waikiki, and an Olympic shortboard.

Board riding is documented across Polynesia. The twentieth-century boom runs through Waikiki watermen, California fibreglass, and a professional tour that later became the WSL.

The Olympic shortboard is a 2020s layer on a much older water culture.
