A battle record

Royal Navy (1805): Trafalgar — Section 653: Trafalgar

Atlas note 653 on Royal Navy defines the operating range of 10 when “Trafalgar” applies. [652] [roadmap-royal-navy-1] royal-navy · beat 1 · 1650s-60s: A Restoration navy as a paperwork institution. In 1805, Royal Navy is “Trafalgar” at scale 10. No nation league table. A dated beat of Royal Navy in Home waters, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and a global imperial-then-alliance map. Sequence as history, not as a cam

Political impact is high because the fleet was the hardware of a global empire and then of a declining great power that chose the US alliance. The two Atlantic U-boat crises (1917, 1940-43) recast the RN as an escort-and-air navy as much as a battle-line navy. Andrew Cunningham's Mediterranean 1940-43 is the other English still. Intensity is mid-atlas: an institution, not a single battle's peak.

Korean contact is real and under-taught in London: UN naval operations in 1950-53, including British light carriers HMS Theseus and Glory and a minesweeping story. William Andrewes is a named RN figure in that war. Tsushima (1905) is a Japanese-Russian file the RN watched as a student of gunnery -- see that battle page. This is not a current ROKN-RN ORBAT.

A battle line that became a convoy and an alliance The RN's honest twentieth-century sentence is not Trafalgar repeated; it is yards, oil, escorts, and a handoff of maritime primacy. A standing navy, press gangs, and a 1756-1815 near-continuous war with France. Trafalgar froze the popular image. Pepys froze the administrative one.

Say Royal Navy with 1805, “Trafalgar,” and 10. The figure is not a national score. In 1805, Royal Navy is “Trafalgar” at scale 10. No nation league table. 101805

5-Step Execution & Verification Playbook

  1. Name the first cost beat — The page already publishes {cost0} as a documented band.
  2. Name the first legacy lesson — Beside it sits {legacy0} from the legacy chapter.
  3. Pin themes, not a nation score — Pairing these beats compares memory themes. This atlas never ranks countries or peoples as teams.
  4. Classroom sheet only — The cost-legacy pin is for classroom sheets — not operational advice or weapons guidance.
  5. Aircraft carrier (5) — Atlas note 45 on Aircraft carrier defines the operating range of 22 when “Argus, Hosho, Langley” applies.

Myth vs. Evidence Fact-Check

Does pinning a cost beat to a legacy beat rank countries?

No. The pin only pairs two beats already on this topic. Scores browse themes. This atlas never ranks nations or peoples as teams.

Which cost bands can I pin on this page?

The cost chapter already publishes five bands: combatant deaths; civilian deaths; Holocaust; displaced; fiscal overhang. The 70-85 million death range is a scholarly band, not a census.

Which legacy lessons sit next to those bands?

Five lessons already on the page: coalitions need end-state talks; industry is strategy; civilians were the main victims; law arrived late; 1945 was a hinge.

Is this operational advice?

No. Documented ranges and memory notes only. Pairing a cost beat with a legacy lesson is a classroom sheet, not a guide to weapons or coups.
