Major honours
France is the most recently ascendant program in Europe. Jean-Philippe Gatien lost the Barcelona 1992 Olympic men's singles final to Jan-Ove Waldner for silver, then won the men's singles at the 1993 World Championships in Gothenburg the following year to become France's only world champion. For a long stretch afterward, only Simon Gauzy held a top-20 world ranking, but a youth system built around INSEP in Paris paid off and the picture changed in the 2020s. Felix Lebrun is a rare case of a player reaching the world elite with a penhold grip in an era when the shakehand grip is effectively standard, and alongside his brother Alexis Lebrun he won men's team bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Felix also won men's singles bronze at the same Games. France's domestic professional league, Pro A, forms the other pillar of European club table tennis alongside Germany's Bundesliga.

Rivalry
Winning singles and team bronze in front of a home crowd at Paris 2024 established France as Europe's newest challenger, and it now contests second place on the continent with Germany and Sweden.
