Major honours
Romania is remembered for the era of a single player. Angelica Rozeanu won six consecutive World Championship women's singles titles from 1950 to 1955, still the longest unbroken singles run in the sport's history for either gender. Over the same span, the Romanian women's team won the Corbillon Cup five times, unsettling the Central European order that Hungary and Czechoslovakia had dominated, and Bucharest hosted the World Championships in 1953. After Rozeanu, Maria Alexandru kept the lineage alive in doubles and on the European stage. The men's side never reached the world summit, so Romania's six World Championship singles titles all belong to the women, and it has no Olympic medals since the sport joined the program. Since the 2010s, Bernadette Szőcs has put the country back among Europe's leading contenders.
