Switzerland is alpine skiing's other Alpine pole alongside Austria. Vreni Schneider posted an unmatched win rate of 14 from 16 races in 1988-89, finishing her career with three overall Crystal Globes and five Olympic medals. Didier Cuche won the Hahnenkamm downhill at Kitzbuhel five times, more than any racer in the history of the sport's most feared course. Marco Odermatt won four consecutive overall Crystal Globes from 2022 to 2025, and in 2022-23 swept the giant slalom, super-G and downhill globes in the same season while breaking Hermann Maier's men's single-season points record. Switzerland is also home to Wengen, where the Lauberhorn downhill runs the longest course on the circuit every year and serves as the cradle of the country's speed program.

Rivalry

The rivalry with Austria is the oldest between two neighboring Alpine powers, extended in recent years into giant slalom duels between Odermatt and Austrian racers.
