Wrist & Hand: after “Certain habits are commonly discouraged during wrist and hand re”, what about “Forceful stretching of an irritated tend

Certain habits are commonly discouraged during wrist and hand rehabilitation because they aggravate already irritated tendons or nerves, particularly given how frequently the hands are used throughout the day. These general precautions reflect common patterns across wrist and hand conditions and are not a substitute for individualized guidance, particularly for progressive nerve symptoms. (21)

Aggressive stretching of an actively irritated tendon, such as forcing thumb movement in De Quervain's tenosynovitis, is generally discouraged in the early stages. Continuing usual activity despite worsening or spreading numbness is discouraged, since delayed treatment of nerve compression can allow more lasting nerve changes to develop.

Wrist & Hand · Forceful stretching of an irritated tendon

Aggressive stretching of an actively irritated tendon, such as forcing thumb movement in De Quervain's tenosynovitis, is generally discouraged in the early stages. Continuing usual activity despite worsening or spreading numbness is discouraged, since delayed treatment of nerve compression can allow more lasting nerve changes to develop.

Wrist & Hand · Sharp pain during tendon-loading exercise

A sudden, sharp pain during a loading exercise, rather than the mild discomfort sometimes expected, is a signal to reduce load or reassess technique. Rehabilitation of the wrist and hand generally progresses from reducing nerve or tendon irritation toward restoring strength and fine motor control needed for daily and occupational tasks.

Wrist & Hand · Because so many daily activities rely on the hands, activity mod

Because so many daily activities rely on the hands, activity modification rather than complete rest is typically emphasized throughout this progression. Post-surgical recovery, such as after carpal tunnel release, typically follows a somewhat different and more protected early phase before rejoining a similar strengthening progression.
