This atlas treats protozoa as a tree-of-life teaching branch. It explains cycles at a public-health level and refuses culture protocols or weapon stories. Leeuwenhoek's animalcules included protozoa. The nineteenth century tied some of them to disease; the twentieth split the group on molecular trees.
Protozoa · Protozoa is a classroom word for motile unicellular eukaryotes —
Protozoa is a classroom word for motile unicellular eukaryotes — amoebae, flagellates, ciliates. They are not bacteria. Modern trees split them across several kingdoms. Most species live in soil and water and graze bacteria. A medically famous minority includes Plasmodium, trypanosomes and some amoebae. Those stories are geography and clinics, not pond-watching.

Protozoa · Ross and Grassi mapped mosquito stages of malaria
Ross and Grassi mapped mosquito stages of malaria. That geography still saves lives when nets and drugs reach people. Georg Goldfuss uses Protozoa for 'first animals' — a name that outlived the zoology.
Protozoa · Laveran sees malaria
Alphonse Laveran finds pigmented parasites in blood — protozoa enter tropical medicine. A ciliate is a swimming mouth: oral cilia sweep bacteria into a gullet. An amoeba hugs prey with pseudopodia. Some dinoflagellates photosynthesise and still hunt.
This is education from the atlas. It does not diagnose and does not prescribe a dose. It does not replace the full topic page.
