Phage therapy exists as a concept and as limited clinical practice. This atlas explains the idea and refuses recipes, isolation steps and engineering instructions. Independent observations in 1915–1917 showed something that ate bacterial colonies. Félix d'Hérelle named bacteriophage and tried therapy before antibiotics existed.
Bacteriophages · Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria
Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria. They are not cells, not human pathogens, and not a supermarket probiotic. Many tailed forms inject DNA and, in the lytic path, burst the host. They may be the most numerous biological particles on Earth. Bacteria remember them with CRISPR. People noticed them in 1915–1917, then built molecular biology on their backs.

Bacteriophages · Western clinics largely switched to antibiotics after the 1940s
Western clinics largely switched to antibiotics after the 1940s. The Soviet and Georgian schools kept phage collections. Molecular biology was born in phage labs in between. Félix d'Hérelle coins bacteriophage and begins therapeutic attempts in Paris.
Bacteriophages · MS2 RNA phage
A tiny RNA phage becomes a model; its genome is later the first fully sequenced (1976). A tailed phage binds a receptor, contracts, and injects nucleic acid. Minutes later in a rich broth, hundreds of new particles may assemble. In the ocean the same logic runs more slowly.
This is education from the atlas. It does not diagnose and does not prescribe a dose. It does not replace the full topic page.
