Floral did not arrive as one bottle. The timeline below keeps Grasse, Guerlain, Chanel, Nahéma and IFRA as proper names, not metaphors.

Read the years as a map of trade and reformulation, not as a ranking of beauty.

Timeline

1. c. 1800Soliflore vogue

   Single-flower eaux and extraits dominate Paris counters before mixed bouquets become a house signature.

2. 1912Quelques Fleurs

   Houbigant’s Robert Bienaimé stacks dozens of blooms into one of the first true multi-florals.

3. 1930Joy launched

   Jean Patou and Henri Alméras price a rose–jasmine extrait as “the costliest perfume in the world”.

4. 1947L’Air du Temps

   Nina Ricci and Francis Fabron set carnation and spices in the famous twin-dove flacon.

5. 1956Diorissimo

   Edmond Roudnitska builds a muguet soliflore that still reads as a full spring bouquet.

6. 1975Chloé

   The first Chloé perfume (Barry, Cresp later recast) puts tuberose inside a wearable floral.

7. 1978Anaïs Anaïs

   Cacharel’s lily bouquet becomes a 1980s starter floral across Europe.

8. 1995Pleasures

   Estée Lauder’s sheer floral (Alberto Morillas / Annie Buzantian) defines the transparent 1990s.

9. 2000sPeony wave

   Peony and “fresh rose” accords flood mall florals from Paris to Seoul.

10. 2010sRose-peony musk

    Narciso and similar musky florals keep the bouquet but pin it to clean skin.

The eras

• Soliflore counters — Violets, roses and orange blossom sold as named flowers; mixing was a perfumer’s private craft.
• Bouquet modern — Quelques Fleurs and Joy prove a stacked garden can be a signature, not a muddle.
• Postwar grace — L’Air du Temps and Diorissimo make florals the default “proper” feminine scent.
• Mall bouquet — Anaïs Anaïs, Chloé and Lauder sheers carry florals into department-store volume.
• Sheer and musk — Transparency, peony and white musk keep florals office-safe without the old extraits’ weight.

Milestones

• Quelques Fleurs, 1912 — Bienaimé’s multi-floral is the template later houses still cite when they say “bouquet”.
• Joy, 1930 — Patou’s rose–jasmine load set a luxury benchmark and a Grasse-absolute legend.
• Pleasures, 1995 — The sheer floral made the family daily-wear again after 1980s bombast.
