How

Confined water, four ocean dives, then a conservative first year.

A typical Open Water path is theory, confined-water skills, and four open-water dives. The craft after the card is buoyancy, gas awareness and turning the dive early.

The card is a start. The first fifty logged dives are the actual course.

Steps

  1. Pick an agency and a medical path

Read the form. Some answers mean a physician.

This atlas does not interpret the form.

  2. Confined-water skills

Mask clear, regulator recover, buoyancy in a pool or lagoon.

Ugly in a pool is dangerous in a swell.

  3. Four ocean dives

Briefed, guided, shallow. Repetition, not a deep trophy.

Log them while the briefing is fresh.

  4. Practise buoyancy on sand

The reef-etiquette chapter is the next lesson.

A 10 cm hover saves coral and air.

  5. Plan gas and no-stop time

A conservative turn pressure; computer as a check.

The first person to 70 bar leads.

  6. Dive with a pro after a layoff

    Skills expire.

A guided house reef is cheaper than a chamber story.
