Tips
- Event over adventure for a first — A marked 2 km with kayaks teaches more than a heroic solo along an unknown cliff.
- Read the tide table — A “flat” harbour can still have a two-knot drain on the ebb.
- Algae and quality notices — Lakes close for blue-green algae. The notice on the gate is the briefing.
- Boat lanes — Swim inside the swimming zone, not on the sailing transit. Bright kit is not a right of way.
The famous crossings are expeditions. Most people should collect marked lake loops before they collect Channel folklore.
