What is shallow-water blackout?
A loss of consciousness from hypoxia, often near the surface on the way up. The safety chapter covers the culture; this is not a medical text.
Can scuba divers just freedive?
Equalisation and lungs work differently. A scuba card is not a freedive education.
Freedivers use the same pretty walls as snorkelers, plus a few famous blue holes and competition sites. Depths below are typical recreational bands, not records.
A club line in a quarry has taught more safe depth than a famous hole on holiday.

- Club line before famous hole — Records are a spectator sport.
- Ask boat traffic — A long dive is a long invisibility.
- Do not mix Dahab folklore with a first trip — The arch is a scuba-and-death story as much as a postcard.
- Working coasts are workplaces — Haenyeo water is not a playground.
The best freedive site is a buddied line. The famous holes are optional and sharper.
