G2 Esports was founded in 2013 by Spanish pro gamer Carlos 'ocelote' Rodriguez as Gamers2, and grew, headquartered in Berlin, into the loudest and most-decorated brand in European esports. Its League of Legends division holds the region's record with more than ten league titles, and in 2019 it became the first European team to win the Mid-Season Invitational and also reached the World Championship final that same year — though a world title itself still eludes it. In Counter-Strike, elite individual talents NiKo and m0NESY have carried it to numerous top-tier tournament wins, but Major finals have repeatedly slipped away. Aggressive, freewheeling drafting and marketing built on memes and streamed content have made G2 the biggest fandom in Europe regardless of results.

The rivalry with Fnatic is the oldest in European League of Legends, and in Counter-Strike the 0-2 loss to Na'Vi in the 2021 Stockholm Major final still lingers as the team's unfinished chapter.
