Major honours
The most successful team in cricket history. Australia was one of the two sides that played the first Test in March 1877 in Melbourne, beating England by 45 runs, and has led in both career wins and world titles ever since. Don Bradman's average of 99.94, compiled between 1928 and 1948, became the identity of the team itself, and England's Bodyline tactic devised to contain him only proved, in a backhanded way, that stopping Australia required pushing the rules to their limit. From the mid-1990s to the late 2000s, with Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath bowling and Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist batting, Australia strung together two separate 16-match Test winning streaks — a run of sustained dominance rarely seen in any sport. The three straight World Cups in 1999, 2003 and 2007 remain the benchmark for limited-overs cricket. With the 2021 T20 World Cup, the 2023 World Test Championship, and an ODI World Cup win over India in Ahmedabad that same year, Australia has even held all three world titles at once.

Rivalry
The Ashes against England, contested since 1882, is the sport's oldest rivalry — a five-match series played roughly every two years, alternating hosts. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India has grown since the 2000s into a rivalry that rivals the Ashes both commercially and competitively.
