Based in a small city of roughly 100,000 people, the Packers hold the NFL record with 13 career championships — three straight under Curly Lambeau in the 1920s, five under Vince Lombardi in the 1960s, and Super Bowls XXXI and XLV. What sets them apart is more than the trophy case. They are the only publicly owned, nonprofit franchise among North America's four major pro sports: no single owner, roughly 537,000 shareholders holding stock that pays no dividend and cannot be sold for profit, with relocation structurally impossible. Lambeau Field, opened in 1957, is the NFL's oldest continuously used home stadium, and a December afternoon below freezing is itself part of the product. The quarterback line from Bart Starr through Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers was unusually stable — for more than 30 years from 1992, essentially two men held the starting job.

Rivalry

The feud with the Chicago Bears is the NFL's oldest rivalry, dating to 1921, with more than 200 regular-season and playoff meetings. Small city versus big city, 300 kilometres apart, and both franchises past a century of history give the matchup a weight no other pairing carries.
