An accord is a geometry. Rose is rose, jasmine, sandalwood, oud, vetiver, musk or amber stacked on purpose.
Naturals and molecules share the same pyramid; IFRA draws some of the lines.
Accords
- Attar rose — Deg-bhapka rose into sandalwood — Kannauj logic.
- Lipstick rose — Ionones + rose + violet, after Paris / Grojsman.
- Rose chypre — Rose + oakmoss + patchouli, Mitsouko’s cousin.
- Rose-oud — Damask over agarwood; Gulf and niche 2000s.
- Pepper Taif — Dry damask with pink pepper and tea.
Materials
- Rose otto — Steam-distilled Rosa damascena; pale, spicy, expensive.
- Rose absolute — Solvent; redder, jammy, cheaper per effect than otto.
- Rose de Mai — Rosa × centifolia, Grasse May harvest.
- Taif rose — High-altitude Hijaz damask; drier, tea-like.
- Phenylethyl alcohol — The workhorse “rose alcohol” in almost every rose accord.
- Geranium bourbon — Extends rose and adds mint-green.
Smell the materials before you trust a note list on a box of Rose.
