Waikiki / Canoes flats
Oahu, Hawaii · surface · warm · morning calm
The standing-board classroom that the modern sport cites. Crowded, friendly, still an ocean with a reef and a channel.
Eight real waters, from Waikiki to alpine lakes.
These are well-known SUP places. Wind and shipping change; harbours publish the day sheet. Difficulty here is water difficulty, tagged swim or surf where the craft meets those cultures.
A fat hire board on a reservoir is the correct first site.
Oahu, Hawaii · surface · warm · morning calm
The standing-board classroom that the modern sport cites. Crowded, friendly, still an ocean with a reef and a channel.
Kauai, Hawaii · surface · warm · summer mornings
A wide bay that hire shops use; trade wind and river mouth are the real conditions.
California / Nevada, USA · surface · clear alpine · summer
A high-altitude lake with cold water even in August; clarity is the draw, wind is the hazard.
New Zealand · surface · alpine variable · summer mornings
A scenic hire lake with katabatic afternoon wind that ends sessions early.
France · surface / small · Atlantic · summer small days
A European surf-town SUP option on small days; rips still exist.
New South Wales, AU · surface / small · variable · small swell
A point that longboards and SUPs share; localism and turtles are both real.
Netherlands · surface · urban · year-round, ice excepted
Urban SUP as a bylaw problem: some canals allow it, many do not. Check the gemeente, not a postcard.
Alberta, Canada · surface · glacial cold · summer
A mountain-town hire reach; cold water and current make a PFD non-optional.
Most good SUP happens on an ordinary reservoir with a leash. The postcard bay is optional.
