Major honours
Polish men's volleyball has had two golden eras, separated by a 40-year gap. The first generation, led by coach Hubert Wagner, won the 1974 World Championship in Mexico by pushing past the Soviet Union, then beat the Soviets again in a five-set final at the 1976 Montreal Olympics for gold. Poland then spent a long stretch as a mid-tier European side before making a full comeback by winning the 2014 World Championship on home soil. A second straight World Championship followed in 2018 in Italy, and Poland also won the 2012 World League and the 2023 Volleyball Nations League. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Poland lost the final 0-3 to France, settling for silver. The foundation of this revival is the PlusLiga, a league that ranks among the world's best for stadium crowds and broadcast revenue, and which set the indoor volleyball attendance record with roughly 61,500 fans at the 2014 season opener at Warsaw's National Stadium.

Rivalry
The Soviet Union in the 1976 final is the original rival, and more recently the biggest recurring opponents are France, which swept Poland 3-0 in the 2024 Paris final, and Italy, a constant rival for the World Championship title.
