Major honours
France is the fastest-rising men's volleyball program of the 21st century. It first broke into the elite tier by winning its first European Championship and the World League in the same year, 2015, and added another World League title in 2017. The peak came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where France, under coach Laurent Tillie, beat the Russian Olympic Committee 3-2 in the final for the country's first-ever gold medal, with Earvin Ngapeth named tournament MVP. Three years later, at the Paris Olympics on home soil, Italian coach Andrea Giani led the team to a dominant final win over top-ranked Poland, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23, the first back-to-back men's Olympic volleyball titles since the United States in 1984 and 1988. France also won the Volleyball Nations League in both 2022 and 2024. A World Championship title still eludes the men's program, and the women's national team carries little weight internationally.

Rivalry
Its two Olympic final opponents are its true rivals: the Russian Olympic Committee at Tokyo 2021, and Poland at Paris 2024. The rivalry with Poland in particular, renewed repeatedly in the Nations League and the European Championship, has become the premier fixture in men's volleyball today.
