Major honours
India has yet to produce a professional snooker world champion, but it sits at the top of the world in amateur snooker and billiards. Pankaj Advani won his first world billiards title in 2003 at 18, and has since collected more than 20 world titles recognised by the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) across billiards and amateur snooker combined, more than any player in either sport's history. His success drove the founding of snooker and billiards academies across India, with Bengaluru established as the main training hub. Indian players compete mainly in the IBSF World Championship and the Asian Championship rather than the professional tour, and several besides Advani hold places near the top of the amateur game. Indian players participating regularly on the professional snooker tour is a comparatively recent development.

Rivalry
India has not yet formed a clear national rivalry on the professional tour, but on the IBSF amateur stage it has long contested billiards and snooker titles with players from England and Pakistan.
