Major honours
South Korea, a country with almost no skating infrastructure, changed the world map of this sport with a single skater. Yuna Kim won Olympic gold at Vancouver 2010 with a world-record 228.56 points, finishing 23 points ahead of Mao Asada — still the largest winning margin at an Olympics under the current scoring system. She won the 2009 and 2013 World Championships and became the first woman to break 200 points, at the 2009 Los Angeles Worlds, and never missed the podium at a senior ISU championship. Before her international emergence, South Korea had almost no proper ice rinks or coaching infrastructure, but rink construction and youth registration surged nationwide after Vancouver. Cha Jun-hwan in men's singles, along with Lim Eun-soo and Kim Chae-yeon, have since carried South Korean skating onto the international stage.
