Major honours
Italy has produced steady results in pairs and women's singles in the 21st century. Carolina Kostner won the 2012 World Championship and Olympic bronze at Sochi 2014, standing as the most successful women's singles skater in Italian history, and is also known for a career spanning more than 17 years at senior international level. In pairs, generations of skaters coached by Massimo Scali, including Anna Cappellini and Walter Farris, have kept the discipline competitive at the European Championships. Italy has also invested in domestic infrastructure and public interest by hosting two Winter Olympics, at Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 and Turin in 2006, and looks to leverage home advantage again ahead of the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics. The growth of Corner Daniel and a younger generation is also broadening the base of Italian skating.
