Major honours
Created in 1926 as Madison Square Garden's marquee tenant, the Rangers won the Cup in their second season, 1928. Game 2 of that Final became legend when 44-year-old coach Lester Patrick replaced injured goaltender Lorne Chabot and won in overtime. Titles in 1933 and 1940 preceded a 54-year drought — opposing fans chanting "1940" became ritual. Mark Messier's 1994 team beat Vancouver 3–2 in Game 7 to end the curse; Brian Leetch became the first American Conn Smythe winner. Henrik Lundqvist piled up 459 wins and seven straight 30-win seasons from debut — an NHL record. Four Presidents' Trophies came in 1992, 1994, 2015, and 2024.
