Craft for Iris & powdery is solvent, steam, headspace and dose — not a mood.
The six steps below are a studio loop; they are not a safety sheet.
Methods
- Peel and age — Rhizomes dried and stored until irones form.
- Steam / solvent — Butter and absolute from aged roots.
- Irone reconstitution — When the brief cannot pay for butter.
- Starch accord — Rice, musks, aldehydes for Infusion effects.
- Watercolor dilution — Giacobetti style: almost nothing, exact placement.
Steps
- Budget the butter
Orris is a line item, not a decoration.
If the budget is ionones, say so.
- Choose weather or starch
Rain (Guerlain) vs laundry (Prada).
They fight if stacked.
- Add a green or a sweet
Galbanum or heliotropin — one.
Both at once muddy the weather.
- Keep sillage modest
Iris is a trail of dust, not a boom.
Overdose reads carrot.
- Age the concentrate
Fats in butter need maceration.
Chill-filter haze.
- Wear on cool skin
Heat turns orris soapy.
Inner elbow, not pulse-sprint.
Limits
- Years of aging — No shortcut to natural irones.
- Price — Butter can outcost the rest of a formula.
- Heliotropin rules — Some powder classics cannot be restaged as written.
A good Iris & powdery formula knows its IFRA ceiling before it knows its ad.
