Everything About Names

Name lab

Type a given name and optional family name. See unit count, length, initials and a practical 0-100 score -- not a destiny reading.

Latin names count vowel groups as syllables. Hangul and CJK count characters. The flag only looks for crude English vulgar substrings and kkk. Criteria below stay visible without JavaScript.

A practical checklist -- not fortune, numerology or a legal opinion.

What this lab checks

  1. Sound

Say it aloud in the languages the person will live in. Stress, rhythm and lookalikes matter more than a pretty spelling.

  2. Meaning

A gloss is a cultural story, not a personality forecast. Check what the name means to the family that will use it.

  3. Uniqueness

Rarity can be distinctive and also costly to spell. Fashion moves; today’s unusual name is often tomorrow’s neighbour.

  4. Family fit

Sibling sets, generation names and two-surname systems should match on purpose — or be dropped on purpose.

  5. Nickname

Decide which short forms you will accept in classrooms and workplaces. Silence here is how unwanted nicknames win.

  6. Initials

Monograms, email prefixes and jersey letters are public. Read the initials aloud before you lock the string.

  7. Legality

Registries, character lists and “real name” policies differ by country and platform. This check is a prompt, not counsel.

  8. Cultural respect

Borrowing a name from a community you do not belong to can be homage or harm. Ask living speakers, not a baby-name blog.

Frequently asked questions

Is this fortune-telling or saju?
No. The lab counts units, length and initials and flags crude English vulgar substrings. It does not read strokes, stars or destiny.
How are syllables counted?
Latin letters use vowel groups. Hangul syllables and CJK characters each count as one unit. Spaces are ignored.
What does the sensitive flag mean?
A very small English substring list plus kkk. It is a workplace/schoolyard tripwire, not a complete profanity filter.
What is the 0-100 score?
A teaching mark for length, unit count and the flag -- useful for comparing drafts, not for ranking a person's worth.
