Civil Engineer · tagline
The profession that turns rivers, rock and gravity into bridges, roads and clean water — civilization's quiet load-bearing trade since Imhotep. The word is younger than the work. "Civil engineer" was adopted in the 18th century by the Englishman John Smeaton to mark off civilian works — harbors, canals, lighthouses — from the military engineering that had monopolized the title until then.
