On 26 April 1986 an explosion at reactor 4 of the Chernobyl plant in the Ukrainian SSR became the worst nuclear accident on the public record and rewrote international nuclear law.
Bhopal disaster
On the night of 2–3 December 1984 a methyl isocyanate leak at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal killed thousands and left a mixed legal record that still shapes industrial-disaster law.
