Electric eel in 2020s: Dams and tanks

[190] [more-electric-eel-90] In 2020s, the field log for Electric eel is headed “Dams and tanks.” The figure kept beside that heading is 860. It is a count or a date from the work, not a rank of the species’ worth. A zoo birthday card does not replace the log. Reading electric eel history beside the resilience score keeps a recovered stock from standing in for a threatened cousin.

What did Humboldt actually do in 1800? His account of horses herded into a pool of eels became a European science anecdote. Later readers treated it as a method; it was also travel theatre. Did electric eels inspire the battery? Volta and Galvani debates used animal electricity. Electrophorus was a New World exhibit in that argument, not the sole inventor of the pile.

A high-voltage volley can freeze prey; a weaker field maps the night water. Kenneth Catania high-speed videos in the 2010s showed doublets that twitch hidden fish. Are they Least Concern because they shock people? No. LC reflects a wide Amazon-Orinoco footprint. Dams, drought and capture are local, not a comic-book immunity.

Can a tank specimen represent the wild organ? Captive voltage and diet differ. Field E. voltai numbers should not be read off a pet-shop tube. Electric eel is one of 24 types in this animals atlas. The pages treat it as a full system -- history, anatomy, operating principles, culture, icons, future pressure and market shape -- not a ranking of a best species.

Keep 2020s, “Dams and tanks,” and 860 together or the note on Electric eel stops being that year’s record.2020s
